An incredible park, a must-see
We loved Big Sur campground! The campsites were well spaced out, there was firewood available (for a small $$), and overall going in May was so lovely. Stayed just one night but would recommend booking in for more just to spend time exploring…also recommend stargazing towards the main bridge if you get the chance! Token showers, but good pressure and clean facilities.
beautiful but full
such a gorgeous place to camp definitely book in advance the more time the better
camp next to Big Sur river
Thanks to camp nab - I nabbed a perfect camping site during busy spring break at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Our campsite had the river flowing right next to it. It was a unique trip, for mother and son camping alone for the first time, and I am glad I was able to plan it at the last minute.
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is great- I hear there are mosquitoes later in summer around the river but for spring it was perfect. It got chilly at night - for which we were ill prepared and we moved our sleeping bags in the car. Loved the wildflowers and the hikes, the buzzard hike was especially memorable with views of the Pacific Ocean.
Just 3 hrs from east bay, it was a beautiful drive and overall amazing camping experience!
Things to keep in mind
Overall great experience. We have been a few times. Things to keep in mind, this is a huge campground and camp sites are really close. It’s a great campground for kids. If you are looking for a quiet escape with privacy I would keep looking.
Great campground
My husband and I love this campground. Each site is beautiful with close access to hiking trails. The campground also offers hot showers (there is a small fee) and a cozy lodge to hang out in and play board games. This will forever be one of our favorite campgrounds!
Beautiful campground
I stayed at two campsites, 156 and then 142, and both were excellent. The campground is clean and the sites are secluded enough while still feeling part of the larger campground. 142 was a really beautiful site. I would come back in a heartbeat.
The magic of Big Sur
Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground is a large state campground with endless activities inside the campground, and the beaty of Big Sur and highway 1 to the north or south. Explore the redwoods, play in the stream, hike up to viewpoints, or scurry up rocks to the gorge - regardless, you are going to have fun! Campsites do vary on how much space and how private your experience will be, this is a very popular campground for families and children. The campground does allow dogs, but they are not permitted on trails. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
