A lot of us are bouncing between meetings, processing emails, and dealing with one issue after another. Even when we enjoy our work, it sometimes becomes a bit much. This is a why we think it’s so important to get time away from our screens. We owe it to ourselves to regroup, reconnect, and refresh ourselves in nature—with our families and friends.
Unfortunately, booking a campsite is a real drag. It’s hard to find good information on which campground is right for you. It’s even harder to reserve a spot, when they’re in such high demand. This is what we’re here for: to help you discover and reserve a great campsite—free of all the hassle. 🤙
A few years ago, Eric Shelkie and his wife Kim got a campervan. They were stoked to get out and camp around Vancouver. They were less stoked when they tried to reserve a campsite. Everything was booked, even if they drove for hours.
Kim wasn’t willing to give up. So, she hit the Refresh button on the BC Parks website repeatedly. After a while she found a new campsite opening. She immediately booked it, and told Eric that they had a place to go. Huzzah!
Eric wanted to recreate this good fortune—without having to click Refresh. So, he built a tool to automatically check park websites for cancellations. He found that many reservations get cancelled. This means that thousands of campsites go unused—in spite of demand.
So, Eric added a front-end, while the other Eric designed a friendly user interface. They then shared this discovery with other campers. Within moments of going live, B.C. campers were finding campsites through Campnab.
Since then, we’ve grown Campnab to help campers around North America. Our service now monitors a number of provincial, state, and federal parks in Canada and the United States. This has grown from a side-project to a full-time gig for us.
We continually improve our scanning algorithm to run more efficiently. We add member-requested features. We also offer one-on-one support. And we’re not stopping there! We’re on a mission to get you and your friends around a campfire! 🤙
