I’m one of the two people working on Campnab. I like to run, ski, bike, and camp with my family and friends. (I love saunas.)

Find me:

When we first built Campnab, we tried to keep our scope narrow. We figured this was the best way to get the product in campers’ hands. This approach worked out pretty well. We opened Campnab up to other campers within a few weeks of Eric S. building this campsite scanner for his wife Kim’s use.

This approach isn’t without its shortcomings, though. Some ideas we had at the outset didn’t work out. Others became less adaptable in certain scenarios. So, for the past 7+ years, we’ve continually added features and new jurisdictions to Campnab. As a result, this campsite alert system is waaaay better than when we launched it, in 2017.

One successful approach is text-based login. Campnab members like you never need to remember a username or password. Instead, you enter your email, and we send you an access code. Within seconds, you’re signed into Campnab. No fuss, no muss.

There are some exceptions. Although we have members around the world, it costs too much to send text messages to some countries. These high text messaging costs meant that we couldn’t support all visitors from abroad who wanted to track campsite availabilities in Canada and the United States. Additionally, those in areas with wifi—but no cell access—couldn’t sign into their accounts.

So, we’ve finally added email sign-in. For most members, your phone is still the best and fastest way to log in to Campnab. That said, if you’re out of cell range but have wifi access, you can now sign in to Campnab via email. Like our SMS-based sign-in, you won’t need to remember a password. Instead, we’ll send a magic link to your email when prompted.

Additionally, campers from overseas can now use Campnab just like anyone else. Just pop into the Dashboard and enter your phone number once prompted. If we can send text messages to your country, enter the access code, and you’re in.

If we can’t send SMS messages to your area, the system will note this. It’ll then prompt you to enter an email address, which we’ll use to set up your account. Please note that if you’re in an area we can’t send text messages to, we’ll email campsite availability alerts to you.

That’s all for now. Keep on, keepin‘ on.
