Emma Wood State Beach is a California State Beach in Ventura, California. It is located on the Santa Barbara Channel on the west side of the Ventura River estuary and south of the railroad tracks of the Coast Line and the US Highway 101 freeway.
The beach is named after Emma Grubb Wood who once owned the 8,000 acres (3,237 ha) Taylor Ranch. The beach is popular for walking, fishing, swimming, and surfing. It also includes a primitive campground for recreational vehicles and the remains of World War II artillery emplacements.

If you get lucky and snag a roomy site it's s cool spot with ocean views. Since the latest storms, even the best sites have very difficult, rocky access to the beach....and there is very little beach left. At high tide, there is no sand area to the beach. You'll be hanging out in your tiny site. The upper sites are horrendous, with a guardrail as your primary view.
Emma Wood is right on the beach. Every storm or high tide, Climate Change takes a little bit more of this campground into the ocean. This campground is barebones, no hookups, no water, dump stations, and barely any cell service. The train line is between you, the ocean, and The PCH.
That's okay. It's way cheaper than the RV park nearby. It's safer than the Rincon. Gets full sun for those solar panels...because we want to save the earth.
Tell us when, where, and how long you want to camp for. We’ll notify you (via SMS) when a suitable spot opens up at that campground—so you can nab that sold-out campsite reservation!
