What Doesn’t Campnab Do?

March 27, 2021

Once you’ve used Campnab to scan parks for new availabilities, what our product does is straight forward. That said, we recognize that not everyone is familiar with our campsite availability app—and they sometimes have different ideas about what we do. For this reason, we’ve compiled some of the most common misconceptions about campground monitoring. This video speaks to each of the things Campnab doesn’t do (aside from making milkshakes… because it totally doesn’t do that either).

Introduction

Hey—

It’s Eric from Campnab.

I’m back again for one of these FAQ videos. Today, I’m going to answer the question: What Doesn’t Campnab Do?

So, I’m going to get right into it.

Campnab doesn’t give you an advantage when parks open for reservations

Number 1: We don’t help on opening morning.

You know opening morning, when they flick the switch on campsite reservations and there’s that mad rush to book a spot?

I get a lot of people who think that we can somehow get them to the front of the line. We can’t do that. It’s not possible.

We’re effectively of no value on opening morning. That’s just a free-for-all And you’ve got to try your best to grab one of those spots.

It’s after the fact, when the rush has gone, and a spot opens up. That’s where we come in handy because we can spot them when not everyone else is there.

And, again, on opening morning we’re just not that useful to you.

Campnab doesn’t immediately find sites the moment you sign up

Number 2: Campnab doesn’t work instantly.

I’ve had folks reach out and they say: “Listen, Campnab didn’t work for me. I don’t like your system.”

And I’ll go, “Well, let me take a look at your scan. Let’s see what’s going on.”

I’ll check, and they perhaps set up their account 15 hours earlier. And they expect to see a spot open up right away. This typically doesn’t happen. It can… but it’s not that common.

So, again, you have to be a bit patient and give it a little time.

Campnab doesn’t control the supply of available campsites

The third thing Campnab doesn’t do: We don’t control the supply.

We have no power over when someone cancels, or even if they cancel. So, if a spot doesn’t come available we can’t tell you about it.

Campnab doesn’t book the campsite for you

Number 4: We do not book the reservation for you.

Sorry. It’s just not the business we’re in. We feel it would be unethical to do this and very quickly would get us shut down.

We don’t want to make this an unfair thing, where people are getting an advantage over others.

We just want to help you find a spot without having to hit Refresh day in and day out—because that would suck.

Campnab doesn’t resell camping reservations

Number 5 on the list of things we do not do: We do not resell reservations.

We’ve had a few folks reach out, saying: “Listen, we’ve got this spot. We want to cancel it. Do you want to resell it for us?” We just don’t do that.

But, if you can cancel, please do—because it goes back into the supply. And it means another camper can make use of the spot you booked—instead of it going completely unused. (Which honestly just sucks for everybody.)

And you’ll also get some money back, typically, which is kind of a nice thing.

Campnab doesn’t guarantee you a reservation

Number 6: We do not guarantee you a reservation.

It’d be nice if we could, I suppose, but it’s simply not something that we have control over. Really, you have more control over this than we do.

The way you set up your scan… Being practical about that can make a world of difference. Select a bit shorter of a duration, for your minimum duration.

Don’t get too picky about which specific site you want to book. Give a little bit of time so that you’re scanning with enough lead time that something might open up.

All of these things can increase your chances of booking a spot.

Campnab does give you a fighting chance

But what does Campnab do? It gives you a fighting chance.

Camping is incredibly popular. Campsites are commonly sold-out… fully booked up.

And what we effectively do is allow you a chance at getting one of those spots. Because so many do get canceled over the course of a season.

Again there are no guarantees to this, but if you want to camp, I think we’re one of your best chances of finding a campsite.
