Visitors to Cordell Hull Lake enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, under license to the Corps, administers an intensive wildlife management program at the lake.
Cordell Hull Lake is a lake in the Cumberland River in north-central Tennessee, about forty miles east of Nashville, in the vicinity of Carthage. It covers approximately 12,000 acres (49 km2).
The lake is impounded by Cordell Hull Dam, which was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers between May 1963 and November 1973 for navigation, hydroelectric power generation, and recreation. The dam is a concrete and earthen gravity structure, 87 feet high (above streambed), with a generator capacity of 100 megawatts. It impounds 259,100 acre-feet (0.3196 km3) at normal maximum pool, with a maximum flood storage of 310,900 acre-feet (0.3835 km3).
The dam and lake are named for Cordell Hull, former United States Secretary of State.

Huge campground situated on Cordell Hull lake. Many good lakefront sites and many more with full hookups. It is a bit of a drive to Carthage for supplies or dining out. Wildlife viewing is excellent. Campground hosts are some of the friendliest I have encountered.
This place is a good place to go even if it is a bit out of the way from grocery stores and such. That's its biggest drawback. The last time I went, the bathrooms were clean but it's been a couple of years since I've seen them. The area is well kept as are most Corps of Engineers campgrounds. Also this is a very large Campground so there are a lot of campsites. It's fairly flat and good for bike riding. You have to get reservations well ahead of time. Unless of course you use something like campnab!
