Eric Karjaluoto
I’m one of the two people working on Campnab. I like to run, ski, bike, and camp with my family and friends. (I love saunas.)
Find me:
Pictured: My dad and me, exploring the backcountry in the late-’80s (on a really wet morning).
I don’t often use the word “stoked”—but, I’m stoked about this one. My family is active and we love the outdoors. Recently, my dad asked why we don’t scan for openings at Berg Lake. I responded, “Well, B.C.’s backcountry sites are managed on a separate system from the frontcountry—so it needs to be monitored differently.“
With that in mind, I realize that I kind of owe him. He’s currently working on modifications to my sauna trailer. In case you’re interested: He’s extending the roof rack to accommodate a rooftop tent, building an awning, and adding a cook table into the side. I am… well… I’m stoked about this too! (Lots of “stoke”, right?)
So, I asked Eric Shelkie if we could add scanning for B.C. Parks’ backcountry. Truth be told, this wasn’t purely for dad. I’m eager to get into the backcountry for some multi-day trips with my kids. (Also, isn’t it interesting how I pay my dad back by getting my friend to do all the work? 😉)
So, hand it to Eric Shelkie! In between the many things he’s already got on the go, he added scanning capability for B.C.’s backcountry to Campnab. Huzzah!
In case you’re wondering, we can now scan backcountry parks including Garibaldi Park Backcountry, Berg Lake Trail Backcountry, Joffre Lakes Park Backcountry, and Mount Assiniboine Park Backcountry Camping.
Happy trails, friends! 🙌
