Definition of softshell jacket
A type of outer garment or mid-layer that protects the wearer from outside elements. Softshell jackets are packable and comfortable. The stretchiness of the fabric used can offer the wearer a wide range of movement. Softshell jackets typically resist water but are not waterproof, resulting in less protection from the elements. They are, however, well-suited to more aerobic activities.
