I’m one of the two people working on Campnab. I like to run, ski, bike, and camp with my family and friends. (I love saunas.)
Find me:
In January, we had a little giveaway. We asked folks to post park reviews with the chance to win a 3-month Campnab membership. This turned out to be a great way to kick off the Campnab Community that resulted in a number of awesome park reviews.
At the end of the month, participants were included in a random draw. Each review counted as a unique entry. Misty was the lucky winner of the draw, thanks to her review of Cultus Lake Provincial Park. Congratulations, once again Misty!
We took February to reflect on the sweepstakes and ask how we might make it better. One concern we had related to those who wrote stunningly in-depth reviews but walked away empty-handed. This seemed like a a drag for those who’d contributed so much.
Our solution was to change our sweepstakes to a contest. We’re calling this “The Camping Games”. In it, participants will earn points for their contributions. Here’s how we plan to structure these:
5 points for a review (50+ words)
10 points for writing a short review (100+ words)
30 points for writing a mid-length review (250+ words)
70 points for writing a long review (500+ words)
125 points for writing an extended review (750+ words)
5 points for each park/campground photo added
25 points for being the first to review a park
Up to 100 bonus points per post (awarded for quality, detail, tips, and fun/humor)
This is very much a first draft. As such, we’ll get some things wrong and retool as necessary. We might even make changes throughout this month’s contest. (We recognize this is a bit unorthodox, but we’re trying to work out how to make this game fun and fair.) We’ll post a page with full contest rules in the weeks ahead.
The purpose of this game is to collect park and campground information that helps fellow campers plan their travels. So, any content posted should be useful and informative. It also needs to be original. (So, no ChatGPT content, or filler words/photos.) Essentially: post the kind of information and photos you’d find useful if you were researching parks to visit.
We’ll also award some bonus points this time. So, if you have special insights into a park, or tips that’d be useful for visitors, please share ’em. These are super-helpful when visiting a park for the first time! You can also win bonus points for writing reviews that are interesting and fun to read.
Throughout the contest, I’ll manually tally points for each contribution. At month’s end, I’ll run the math to determine the winners. Up for grabs for the month of March are:
- First prize: A 3-month Awesome-tier Campnab membership
- Second prize: An embroidered Campnab hoodie
- Third prize: Our brand new Campnab trucker hat
Got comments, questions, or criticisms about The Camping Games? Send me an email to let me know. We’ve started this game to add some more fun to the Campnab community. If you have suggestions on how to make this better, we’d love to hear those ideas!
Want to play? You can start by writing a review now! The contest ends on March 31st at 11:59 PM PT. The contest is now closed.
Update! The winners of the March Camping Games are:
1st: Carl Crumley (1,760 points)
2nd: Caroline Anne Robbins (730 points)
3rd: Ginny Brideau (670 points)
P.S., Don’t forget to complete your profile so other campers can get to know you. (Remember to toggle your profile to Public once you’re ready.)
P.P.S., We’d like to do another one of these in the future. Once we have a plan, we’ll write a new post here to let you in on the details. 🙂
