I’m one of the two people working on Campnab. I like to run, ski, bike, and camp with my family and friends. (I love saunas.)

Members often ask us if they can filter ADA sites out of their scans for campground reservation cancellations. This makes sense. For those who are do not have a disability, an alert for an ADA campsite is a false positive—as they can’t reserve it. So, for them, these alerts are effectively useless.
The use of ADA sites is at times unclear (lots of conflicting information) and changes from one region to the next. Washington State restricts ADA only campsites for use only by persons with disabilities. California seems somewhat more flexible. As Jason Epperson notes on RV Miles, “…campsites aren’t like parking spaces. They’re more like an accessible movie theater seat, or bathroom stall. Generally, yes, if it is the only site available, you are permitted to use it.”
We are working on adding filtering (of ADA sites, and other criteria) to Campnab. This is a complex addition, as there are many different systems in use. So, it could take us some time.
In the meanwhile, it doesn’t hurt to speak to rangers/attendants at the park you’re interested in, and ask about their policy regarding ADA campsites. Let’s say it’s the day of, and they otherwise sold out. If they still have 8 unfilled ADA openings available, they might permit you to use one for the night. That said, please be respectful. Even if you are granted permission, vacate the spot if someone with a disability needs it.
